The Mothers’ Union
St Mary’s Church has a very active and friendly branch of the Mothers’ Union who always welcome new members.
The Mothers’ Union is a Worldwide Christian organisation, the purpose of which is to be concerned with all that strengthens and preserves marriage and Christian family life.
Members in the Wakefield Diocese:
- Run a MU branch at New Hall Women’s Prison near Huddersfield.
- Help to run a crèche during visiting hours at Armley Jail in Leeds.
- In Huddersfield they care for toddlers and babies of teenage mothers who wish to continue their education.
- In all their contacts they aim to help young mothers with parenting skills.
At St Mary’s we have 63 members and meet once a month on the second Wednesday after the 7.15pm service. We try to reach out to people of all ages who need help and care.
